Twitter Is Going Wild Over The Harry Styles/Little Mermaid Casting Rumors

The recent casting rumor surrounding Harry Styles taking on the role of Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid remake has some fans going wild.

If there’s one thing the staff at We Got This Covered has learned today, it’s that the internet as a whole has the innate ability to hype rumors up to unbelievable levels, even if nothing has been officially confirmed. As you’ve probably surmised, we’re referring to the recent report that Harry Styles has been officially cast as Prince Eric in the live-action The Little Mermaid remake, which is set to begin filming early next year. As we mentioned in our original article, this rumor has not been confirmed by any official source, and so far, all roads lead back to an unconfirmed report via TheDisInsider, which itself is based off an unnamed source.

Still, that hasn’t stopped the hype train from barreling down the tracks, and as CinemaBlend reports, fans all over have been flocking to Twitter to share their excitement, even if the news is still unconfirmed. While we imagine most of the emotional outbursts stem from Harry’s popularity as former singer for One Direction, there could be a few supporters who enjoyed his performance in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. Either way, we decided to share some of the best tweets that we came across during our search.

On the other hand, some took the opportunity to remind others that this particular piece of casting news is unconfirmed and they wouldn’t get their hopes up until Disney confirms it themselves, while a few made it clear that they couldn’t care less about Styles.

Even though Prince Eric didn’t get the chance to sing in the original film, if the casting regarding Harry Styles turns out to be true, it could mean that Ariel’s love interest will get the chance to showcase his vocal talents this time around. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about The Little Mermaid during next week’s D23 expo.
